Souness or Gerrard.....your choice

I've been watchin some arl footage of Liverpool and it got me thinking again about who was the better midfielder....Souness or Gerrard.
So its here for discussion and don't give me the old "different eras rubbish" if they were playing at the same time who you have as captain and in the central midfield position?

i was thinking a similar thing today

was reading boys from the mersey for the millionth time and nicky alt continuosly mentions how good and influential souness was, aswell as in other books/peices he is talked about in such high regards. anyways that got me thinking. will gerrard be held in the same regard as souness ? obviously gerrard is a legend etc but alot people i speak to who watched souness regulary have this fondness of him.

as i said, i obviously couldnt choose but would like to know what the older ones think.

also what was souness' attitude like, considering that of gerrards is appauling at times. (thinks back to the portsmouth game years ago when gerrard scored that freekick, pointing at his chest saying "you fucking need me, you fucking need me"

Souness would have THRIVED under Rafa's system and been world class...in fact i reckon he was better suited than Gerrard ever will be physically and mentally under rafa...

saying that though Gerrard will always thrive in a team that plays up tempo and counter attacking... he would be ideal for the Germany of today...

Souness was Mr professional on the park, to such an extent he would protect his players from harm....anybody got hurt, Souey would always get them back, no questions.
He was smart about it too though, hardly ever got booked.

best captain I have ever seen end of story and I agree with MYO he would be an absolute general under Rafa's regime.

Souey was an absolute midfield maestro and harder than a coffin nail to boot. A fearless and loyal captain who always had his players backs; something we don't see a great deal of from Stevie. For all his other magnificent attributes, his ego does show a little more often than it should.

Love 'em both, and in a greatest LIverpool XI both would be my central midfielders, with Souey screening the defence and Stevie playing ahead of him. But Souey for skipper every day of the week.

Haha your such a neg.

Stevie has been awesome, epic at times, and as MBS pointed out in his intro post, he is early 20's, like yours truly and we never had the chance to see Souey in action to compare him.

For all we know, he could have been a trophy winning captain in the same capacity that Gary Ratface Neville is. Hes shite and didnt play, but he's still got a buttload of trophies. I know he wasn't, but you get what I mean.

its easy to be a peice of a victorius side like gary neville, Stevie was unlucky not to be involved in the great liverpool sides of old. Champions league 05 I call " the gerrard final" Same goes for the fa cup v west ham.

DISCLAIMER: Neither of us (well not me anyway) is comparing Souey to GNev, Souey was indeed by all accounts a legend of our club, a leader, a gentleman and a great player.

Neville is a rat faced crunt who couldn't play out a half season if his life depended on it.

Plus the half he plays would be shite.

Just so y'all know, I was just using him as an example.
